We recently completed, the newest CD release from Singer/Songwriter Jason Upton, titled, Beautiful People. Production of the project spanned several months with it official release on May 29th. Beautiful People is an intimate walk through worship with the Jason Upton band and the heart of Jason himself. The project contains thirteen original songs, all written by Jason, and was recorded and mixed in its entirety here at Gat3 Productions. Glenn was able to capture the intimate worship that took place while in production. It was very important to record Jason in this manner. This recording was more about feel and experience than performance. Beautiful People is being distributed by Integrity Music. Plans have already begun for the next recording. Production on the next project is planned for late summer 2007. Just prior to this release, Glenn mixed and mastered Jason’s latest CD/DVD Combo. Between Earth and Sky is a DVD compilation from two of Jason’s live performances. The music and other audio was mixed, here at Gat3, in 5.1 surround giving you the feel of being at the service. It is combined with an audio CD and bonus material all in one package. To purchase Beautiful People or Between Earth & Sky and to learn more about Jason Upton, visit www.jasonupton.net. Visiting the site will also allow you to view a behind the scenes video, the making of Beautiful People, shot here at Gat3.
May 2007
About a year ago, Gat3 embarked on a project that was very different from the music recording projects that we find ourselves working on most frequently. We were invited to the Answers In Genesis headquarters, located in Petersburg, KY, just across the river from Cincinnati, OH. There, we met with Patrick Marsh, the director of The Creation Museum, a facility still under construction with plans to open May 2007. We could tell two things from the start, one - this was not your typical museum and two - this is something that we want to be a part of. At the time, the construction and design of the exhibits were about the halfway mark and we were blown away! We began the planning and execution for Gat3 creating all of the background sound and music pieces for the entire 70,000 square foot museum. We brought back to Charlotte, a tremendous amount of information, and an uncontrollable amount of excitement for what we were about to begin. For the next eleven months, the studios here at Gat3 transformed into a tropical jungles, New York City streets and The Grand Canyon among many other settings as we began our design. Dinosaurs were alive, sounds from the construction of The Ark abounded, and you could hear the clashes of thunder and lightening as storms were created. After many hours of work, everything was complete and ready for installation at the 27 million dollar museum. On May 28, 2007 the ribbon was cut and the doors opened at The Creation Museum. Thousands of visitors began touring through the seven C’s of History. We strongly recommend that you plan a trip to visit this amazing museum. It is sure to leave a lasting impression on you and your family. To find out more, visit www.creationmuseum.org or www.answersingenesis.org
June 2006
May and June have been great! We have been busier than ever! It is great to see all of our returning clients each year. This means they are putting out an awesome recording that their fans are purchasing. This allows them to keep traveling and recording other follow up projects. We appreciate their loyalty and confidence in Gat3.
Evonne Rivera released her new project which was recorded at Gat3. She did a really good job on this project and the musicians did an amazing job as well. Evonne combines a traditional jazz and blues sound with modern day pop to create great songs that many people enjoy. Check out Evonne at www.evonnerivera.com.
We also finished yet another fantastic album for the Southern Gospel Trio "Georgia". "Georgia" was organized in 1975 in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. They are a great group of guys to work with. We can always count on a solid performance from them all. To learn more about Georgia or to invite them to sing at your church visit www.georgiagospel.com
We are looking forward to a lot of projects that are coming up next month. If you would like more information about booking your recording at Gat3 contact the studio manager, Susan. We will be glad to plan a custom project for you or your group.
April 2006
The month of April went so quickly. We completed some extremely special projects and started others that are sure to be tremendous. Our great friends Kenny and Amanda Smith and their remarkable band (www.kenny-amandasmith.com) just completed a new gospel bluegrass recording for Rebel Records. This is the third release we have completed for Kenny and Amanda and it is truly special. The project took on a life of its own once started, as most of them do. Go to the artist’s website to check for a release date later this summer – you won’t be disappointed.
We also recently updated our mastering suite with several new pieces, including a new mastering console, made by sterling modular. Their furniture is beautiful, hand crafted, and designed with great acoustic principles. We have also added a mastering monitor system and EQ from Crane Song (www.cranesong.com). The designer, David Hill makes stellar equipment. In Studio A, Glenn added some special preamps and compressors from Requisite Audio (www.requisiteaudio.com). The designer, Danny McKinney is an extremely talented and bright guy. He is a very nice man who is a pleasure to talk with. Everything is built by hand in small quantities and the quality is brilliant. Just wait until you hear these on your next project.
Stay tuned for updates on other projects we have been working on. It is difficult to fit them all in this space, but we want to mention as many as we can.
March 2006
Many of you know Glenn, the studio owner, has been quite a microphone collector for many years. He recently has added over fifteen mics to his unique and special collection. They range from German mics from the forties, to American ribbon mics from the twenties and thirties. ‘I buy these microphones to use – they make my records sound better. There not here to be admired on a glass shelf’ proclaims Glenn, ‘they just sound incredible.’ So when you work on your next recording here, I am certain Glenn will have them out to add something special to your project.
What an incredibly awesome and busy month March has been. We have been blessed with so much talent coming in the studio. We had the opportunity to welcome a drumming legend, Gerry Brown. His credits read like a who’s who and his playing tells us why. It was a wonderful experience working with Gerry, CC, Tony Creasman, Kevin Grant, Mark Stallings, Rodney Shelton, and the entire horn section to make the artist’s vision a reality. It should be mixed in the coming weeks, and we’ll be sure to add some posts to the music section. We are also thankful to welcome our friends, Georgia. This is a great group of guys who are truly a blast to work with. Their new release should be complete next month and we are looking forward to seeing them soon.
February 2006
It has truly been a wonderful start to what will be a record year for Gat3. We are blessed to have worked with so many tremendous artists and organizations already. We'll give updates on some of the projects we are completing and some of the exciting ones that are just getting underway. Words cannot express how much we enjoy being a part of so many fantastic recordings. We are grateful to everyone who already have made this year so extraordinary.
January 2006
What a wonderful Christmas party we had here at Gat3 on December 15th. We want to personally thank all who came out in the weather to spend some time with us. We plan on having more of these types of events in the coming year! Merry Christmas to everyone. We hope you have a blessed holiday season.
December 2005
Recently we had the pleasure of working with our extended family, The Ruppes. We are pleased to announce the release of their newest CD, Sweet Forever. If you don’t have this recording, it’s a must have! We had a great time "working" on this project with them and feel like it is some of their best work to date. It is always an enjoyable experience having them here with us.
We have been busy with many other projects from all over the country. Artists recently in, have traveled here to Gat3 from Montana, Indiana, Tennessee and South Carolina. We welcomed musicians to work on projects from different places also. Gordon Mote was back at Gat3, and just as amazing of a piano player and friend as always. Kelly Back, David Johnson, Mark Fain, Danny Crawford, and Kevin Grantt are a few others that joined us along with many more brilliant musicians.
We had the opportunity to work on the new project, soon to be released for musical genius T. Lavitz. This project is sure to be a hit with the entire jazz fusion crowd and others alike. You certainly can't go wrong when you put together musical talents such as T Lavitz, Jeff Berlin, Dennis Chambers and Dave Fiuczynski. A special thank you must also go to Wade Starnes, who is a tremendous person and a great engineer. It was a pleasure working with you Wade, and we are certain to work on many more projects together.
November 2005
We are excited to announce that we are soon to be adding on yet another room to the Gat3 studios. We plan to change and refresh other areas in the facility as well. Check back for updates and pictures.
The holiday season will soon be upon us and although this is traditionally known as time to take a break and relax, we plan to stay as busy as ever. If you are interested in recording at Gat3 and have some time open in your holiday schedule, we would love to spend it with you. What could be better than doing what we all love to do - make music? Call us today and we’ll schedule time for you or your group.
